AKESOgen performs high throughput DNA and RNA extractions from most starting materials including blood, blood products, saliva, cells, fresh frozen and formalin fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissues.

We will provide extractions either manually or automated using instrumentation such as Thermo Scientific’s KingFisher Flex or Promega’s Maxwell system.

The KingFisher Flex System is a flexible solution for different types of sample processing needs. With the 24 configuration, customers can raise the processing volume up to 5 ml resulting in increased yield of the purified product. For higher throughput needs, 96 samples can be processed with a 96 magnetic head. The open and flexible system allows use of any magnetic particle based kit to meet the application demands.

The Maxwell platforms offer benchtop automation and walk-away purification that saves time and labor by eliminating reagent preparation, pipetting and centrifugation steps. The intruments allow extraction of DNA and RNA from up to 16 samples in 30–60 minutes. The system uses paramagnetic-particle technology for faster separations without clogging or drips.

We have ready-made protocols for different type of applications available.

AKESOgen scientists offer nucleic acid quantitation, normalization and aliquoting and additional nucleic acid quality control procedures as required by our clients.

DNA Extraction
We provide a quick and affordable laboratory service using our validated procedures which allows us to extract DNA from a wide range of biological materials including:

  • Whole blood
  • Lymphocytes, buffy coats, plasma and sera
  • Urine
  • Stool
  • Frozen tissue and biopsy material
  • Formalin Fixed Paraffin Embedded Tissue (FFPE)
  • Buccal scrapes / swabs and mouthwash samples
  • Saliva collected into commercially available kits e.g. Oragene DNA Kits from DNA Genotek
  • Cultured cells (mammalian and bacterial)

Our isolated DNA is suitable for use in a range of downstream applications including Genotyping, TaqMan/qPCR assays, Sequencing, and Copy Number Variation.

RNA Extraction
We have many years experience in isolating RNA using appropriate technologies. Please enquire. We can extract RNA from a variety of starting materials listed below:

  • Whole blood (as well as samples collected with Tempus or Paxgene tubes)
  • Stool
  • Saliva collected into commercially available kits e.g. Oragene DNA Kits from DNA Genotek
  • Formalin Fixed Paraffin Embedded Tissue (FFPE)
  • Frozen tissue and biopsy material
  • Cultured cells (mammalian and bacterial)
  • Plant material

As well as total RNA isolation we also isolate miRNA for our clients.

QC and normalization services
Depending on our customers operating procedures and our recommendations DNA and RNA can be quantitated by either optical density at A260nm and A280nm wavelengths and/or Qubit or Picogreen measurement for DNA samples and Ribogreen for RNA samples. RNA quality can also be assessed on Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer instrumentation. Nucleic acids can be normalized to a concentration and volume for the specific project requirement and on a number of different plate and tube types. We are happy to handle PCR plates or 2D barcoded tubes and provide automation to unscrew caps on cryovials up to 96 tubes at a time. Detailed quality reports are part of our standard operating procedures that we make available to all our clients.
